			<title>Additive free food in Menorca</title>
			<link>http://www.menorcagold.co.uk/menorca-news/additive-free-food-in-menorca</link>
			<description>New owners have taken over Es Fosquet cafe on the Port of Mahon, Menorca. Once a fish restaurant, the new owners have introduced an additive- free range of foods and drinks. The wine is wonderful and is made from grapes which haven't been treated with any pesticides, there is an alternative cola drink which doesn't have e numbers and the equivalent of 19 spoons of sugar in it! Even the seasonings are additive free. Also availble are fresh fruit smoothies, home made hummus, a daily special one plate dish. Everything is home made and with a covered outside terrace you can sit and watch the world go by right on the harbour. It is quite near the yatcht club and has a blue door and awning. Give it a try for a refreshing alternative. </description>

			<title>Carnival in Menorca</title>
			<link>http://www.menorcagold.co.uk/menorca-news/carnival-in-menorca</link>
			<description>
The end of February will see the Carnival celebrations in Spain and Menorca. There are a few speculations on the origins of Carnival in Spain. Most popularly, it is belived the term Carival derives from the words 'farewell to the flesh', a reference to the excesses that led up to the sombre Lent. Some supect Carnival is derived from the Roman solstice festival, the Saturnalia, where participants indulged in much drinking and dancing. The Saturnalia is belived to have had the first parade floats, called 'carrus navalis'. With these pagan roots, its easy to see why the dictator General Franco banned them for forty years!

Carnival in Spain is celebrated nationwide, though the most raucous festivities are in the Canary islands, Cadiz and Sitges. While each town has its own flavour of celebraion, they all have a devotion to having a good time. In general the idea is to dress up in extravagnat costumes and masks and eat and drink as much as possible and sleep as little as possible!

In Menorca everyone will be out in the streets, bars and clubs all dressed up and ready to party.
