Your next holiday to Menorca could be even longer, with the island announcing a scheme to officially extend the tourist season. The government has put aside 50 million Euros – that’s £37.5 million – to try and attract more people out of the normal holiday season dates . Its research has revealed that 46 per cent of visitors go there during the peak summer months.

And while it’s vital the island maintains the number of visitors then, there’s a huge opportunity to attract more people during the rest of the year. Weather wise, Menorca is the ideal destination all year round. As sure as the summer is warm, winter there is very mild.

Government experts believe they can better leverage the infrastructure put in place to give people great holidays in the summer. That could ultimately create more jobs, meaning everyone benefits. The plan is to get businesses and councils to work together to promote the benefits of visiting in the quieter months. And there certainly are plenty of benefits – they revolve around things to do, the culture on offer, and the fantastic food!

There would be individual plans for each resort, to market its particular benefits. The scheme is part of a 12 year plan that aims to improve Menorca’s tourism by 2020. It’s likely that it will be targeting Brits, Italians, Germans and the Dutch. Previous research has identified people from these countries as the biggest visitors to the island.
