The magic of Menorca at night
The magic of Menorca at night Menorca may be famous for its laid back living and being the quietest of the Balearic Islands, but its night time offering should never be overlooked. Thankfully the island doesn’t fill the pavements with clubbers like its sister island Ibiza. But it is the perfect destination for tasty treats with its variety of restaurants. And many local bars and nightclubs offer entertainment with a difference.
So after you’ve tickled your taste buds with Menorca’s speciality fresh fish dishes and a delicious dessert such as the island’s very own Menorquina ice cream, why not make the most of the varied nightlife. Menorca’s local bars and nightclubs promise to offer a night of sophistication. If you enjoy a relaxing drink you can opt for one of the numerous piano bars, to spend your evening with delightful background music while sipping on a cocktail.
Menorca is also famous for its many jazz bars. In fact the island is mad for jazz music and the mellow sounds of jazz and blues can be enjoyed until the early hours! Mahon’s harbour front is also home to The Akalarre Bar which is famous for playing such music as well as boasting a creative cocktail menu that will leave you spoilt for choice. Relaxed in style, The Akalarre Bar is great for an evening with friends. The bar also plays disco and contemporary music upstairs, so once the jazz music has stopped on the floor below, you can carry on dancing until dawn. Famous for its hidden caves above crystal clear waters, there is even a bar and disco that is set into the caves high above sea level.
The Caves of Xorol is located in Cala En Porter and is open daily for drinks, with the disco opening in the evening. This is a must see for your holiday and a nightclub with a difference. Scandals in Es Castell is a bar which offers a full range of sport on the TV and boasts full-sized snooker and pool tables. So if you fancy catching a football match on the box before putting your sporting competitive edge to the test then Scandals is the ideal choice. Also located in Es Castell is a bar called Es Cau. If you’re musical and like to retreat to the island to play your own music, this bar invites guests to take their own instruments. You can even play to the audience – a great way to combat stage fright!
If too much sunbathing and sangria is leaving you feeling sluggish, you can burn off those extra calories by swinging your hips to some salsa moves. The Asere club in Cuitadella is a stylish salsa club which promises a night of pure fun. It goes without saying, there is more to nightlife than cocktails, chatter with friends and dancing. If you’re feeling lucky, you can even try your luck in the casino to boost your holiday spending money. As far as casinos go on the island there is only one choice, the Casino Maritim, but it is advised you dress smart and behave accordingly! And, if you fancy stepping back in time visit the Teatro Principal which opened its doors nearly two centuries ago. The venue boasts a range of cultural events and concerts and shows the latest film releases. Finally, the children can always be entertained with the popular Club Escola Menorquina Show which boasts riders on traditional Andalucian horses.
